Supporting countries in Strategic Planning through People-Centred Framework!
On April 30, 2024 some of our PCF4TB team members traveled to Geneva to participate in a workshop with World Health Organization (WHO) for knowledge and experience sharing among countries implementing the People-Centred Framework (PCF) approach.
The PCF is a support tool for countries in the design of resilient, data-driven and country-led national strategic planning to focus on what matters most: people!
This workshop was cornerstone for our continued work and the optimization of our approaches as we took part in WHO’s initiative for strengthening National Strategic Planning: PRIME TB. The workshop introduced the PRIME TB project, focusing on ending TB and the UNHLM commitments. Discussions covered national strategic planning, evidence-based frameworks, data prioritization, costing, impact assessment, and country experiences.
PRIME TB
PRIME TB stands for Planning, Resource Allocation, Implementation, Monitoring, and Evaluation. It is a comprehensive framework developed by the WHO to enhance tuberculosis (TB) management and elimination.
The sessions in this workshop were attended by teams from 10 countries: Kenya, Mongolia, Nepal, Peru, Uganda, Ethiopia, Pakistan, South Africa, Vietnam, and Indonesia. Global partners, interested groups and organizations present at this workshop included KNCV Tuberculosis Foundation, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the Global Fund.
KNCV presented on the PCF and the development of National Strategic Plans (NSP) roadmaps utilizing Asana tool. The importance of robust NSPs for Global Fund applications and the need for additional strategic planning tools were key highlights during these sessions. During group work, the focus was placed on improving the NSP planning cycle and preparation with a people-centered lens.
At the end of the workshop, participants left with templates for NSP Roadmap planning to be completed in May. This event has proven crucial for KNCV in supporting WHO’s global efforts to end TB, incorporating country experiences as valuable inputs to inform current and future approaches. }
The People-Centred Framework for TB programming was jointly developed by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, The Royal Tropical Institute Netherlands (KIT), the World Health Organization, Linksbridge, TB Modeling and Analysis Consortium, and refined by KNCV Tuberculosis Foundation.The goal of the initiative is provide countries with the necessary tools and approaches to optimize their National Strategic Plans in line with the End TB Strategy, Sustainable Development Goals and country commitments.
